Balance – response to Geordie Shore
Colin Shevills, Director at Balance, said: “Programmes like Geordie Shore are particularly dangerous because they trivialise alcohol misuse, suggesting that drinking to the point of getting involved in a fight or becoming physically ill is amusing, or something to be proud of.
“In reality, drinking to inebriation makes people vulnerable. It increases the risk of accidents, of becoming the victim of a crime or even getting involved in criminal activity. It can even result in death. These issues are surely too serious to be irresponsibly passed off as entertainment.
“It is possible for alcohol to be enjoyed as part of a night out – without taking it to the extreme.”
